NY Times: After 9/11, Documents Suggest, New Yorkers Were Misled About Air Quality

Three days after the event, I was linking stories about air quality, out of concern. My other offline discussions are not recorded, but I remember discussing with someone the remnants of all those CRTs (no LED/LCDs at that time) burst, not to mention fiberglass or asbestos insulations, concrete dust, leads, more. The early declaration of safety was so unbelievable, it ended up being a subject I followed for years after. I was never a fan of Christie Todd Whitman. Her stint as NJ Governor was disastrous. The previous Governor, Jim Florio, had put us in the black with painful but necessary tax increases. Whitman tax-cut us into long-term deficits. As head of the EPA during 9/11, her declaration of safety just days after the event wrought immense harm. Guiliani continued to ape her opinion for months.

The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in 2007 found Whitman and the EPA “not liable” in the interest of “returning NYC to normalcy.”

Read that last sentence twice. She did apologize in 2016. But my question is, why is she not testifying in Congress for the heroes who dug it out, cleaned it up, as Jon Stewart did?
