Thank you (insert preferred deity here). We are seeing multiple large thunderstorm cells, proper monsoonal activity with heavy rain and small hail, pass over the Frijoles fire area. After days of relentless heat, fire and smoke … reprieve? Guardedly optimistic.

10Tanker, making a big difference.

Heading for Frijoles, yesterday. I observed multiple runs with DC10’s and MD-87s, another smaller jet, prop planes, helicopters. Choreographed full-on aerial assault. It was needed - no clouds in the morning or early afternoon, high heat, variable winds blowing towards populated areas. One could see fire intensifying by the minute. Then the assault started, and the smoke abated. Instead of rising in columns, flattened close to the landscape.

Thanks to air resources, we dodged a bullet yesterday. Thank you to the air crews and ground personnel. And all the firefighters.

Chance of rain/clouds over the fire area, 50% today. Let’s hope.

Excluding Micro.blog, Mastodon, Blue Sky, archival Twitter bits, dangerousmeta (all constructs) total up at 83,814 individual postings. Most prolific posting day, 66 entries. June 3, 2002: www.dangerousmeta.com/posts/02/…

Eclectic? You bet.

I’m in the process of reformatting all of dangerousmeta.com, dangerousmeta.rocks, and other postings to static searchable HTML, so I can break away from the obsolescence of PHP, blog constructs, etc.

Interesting revelations. In too many cases, I’ve recorded history that is no longer verifiable.

Enjoy a chuckle?

2014. Guardian.UK, “Facebook will lose 80% of users by 2017, say Princeton researchers.”

I have to give the Guardian kudos, though. They’ve maintained their permalink structure, whereas many others have not.

Frijoles fire has had no new perimeter since Friday night, with obvious growth that affects nearby communities. I feel this is objectively poor public fire intelligence: nearby residents are being shown an acreage number that plainly no longer describes the active footprint.

Discussion

A mildly interesting circumstance. Due to smartphone cameras’ wider-angle lenses, my portrait clients now prefer me to use focal lengths shorter than standard ‘portrait’. No 85mm; 50mm and below. They like having their noses pulled out a bit, their faces lengthened.

Discussion

Folks, you need to know that the official updates to the Frijoles fire are lagging badly. We’ve got a large fire within a couple of miles of two communities, six miles of a larger one. A fire perimeter nearly 24 hours old is not adequate situational awareness for residents.

I have to comment. I was walking myself to school at four years old (about to turn five) for kindergarten. I had some of the best adventures. I can’t imagine growing up in the current culture of overprotection, choreographed time. Being bored? Fruitful. Always.

Went out in my old K95 COVID mask, to assess smoke this morning from the Frijoles fire (NM). Drove a bit to find this. Fire/Airnow says we’re at 200 at this spot. Minnesota saw over 1,000 on their PM2.5 AQI the other week. I can’t imagine five times this schmutz.

The Frijoles fire, east of Pojoaque and Española (NM), has gone from 20 acres yesterday morning to 200 acres today. Been watching a 10Tanker (DC-10) occasionally spreading retardant over the area.

This is a new fire site I had not been aware of until now. Bookmark it.

There can still be good in the world.

Given the severity of smoke in Minnesota and Canada (rating 929 on 1-500 EPA scale), maroon ratings are now relatively meaningless except for ‘extremely dangerous.’ The scale needs to be TRIPLED, with associated colors assigned and the increasing risks for health stated clearly.

Excuse me while I get nauseous. Even some Democratic media are hailing Lindsay Graham as being ‘principled’. The man came in with the “Contract with America” ideologues, and has been the leading sycophant in American politics since. Don’t laud a weasel. Hire Joe Pesci to play him in period flicks.

For the 38th time last week, the President waited until markets closed to announce ‘a deal’ that no parties mentioned know anything about.
