@kmartino So far, I haven’t lost anything. I don’t think. ChatGPT is proving useful in helping extract, identify problems, construct 301 redirects so I don’t lose permalinks … more. I’ve been meaning to do this FOR AGES. But other sites, losing permalinks = losing real history.

@dangerousmeta.bsky.social I should think RSS would be rolled out in V1. How can you get #’s of eyeballs on your content without it?

@dangerousmeta.bsky.social I was working with Dave Winer at the time, RSS was baked into EditThisPage.com, where my original blog lived. He worked hard to get the NY Times and others to get the hell on board with the future of the web.
I still champion RSS at every juncture. People seem to think it died with Google Reader.

@dangerousmeta.bsky.social My first claim to fame as a blogger was covering Cerro Grande in 2000. Only person blogging NM. No Twitter. I did my best as a solo. Major media followed my posts pretty closely. Radiation risks. I always tried to give evacuation info, where to donate to help those who lost houses and more.

@dangerousmeta.bsky.social I have a friend who used to work in search & rescue, and she could use Twitter to blast out really useful frequent updates. Of course, the switch to X ruined all that … Bluesky, Mastodon don’t have the range. They’re stuck with Meta, Facebook and Threads now, I suppose.

@dangerousmeta.bsky.social The maps have multiple layers. Check ’em all out.
One thing they don’t list, are the large air tankers. 10Tanker out of Albuquerque (the DC-10’s) have occasionally been flying the fire. 10Tanker has an instagram page, but they don’t really do frequent updates that I’ve seen. Busy working.

@crazybutable I have a friend in Duluth. Also no A/C. Basements are godsends.

Be safe. The mask is good, but you have heat & humidity to contend with. That makes breathing 1000x harder.

I’ll have more to say shortly, but remember … one of the first attention getters for my original weblog was my coverage of the Cerro Grande fire in 2000. I’ve lived through all the other fires … decades of high AQI. NM has been an ignored harbinger.

@sdevore Playing with focus modes on the Nikon Z8. It’s a more ‘automated’ focus system than the Z6II. I still don’t trust algorithmic focus, but in this case … I have to learn to ‘let go’ control.

@rebeccasolnit.bsky.social IMHO, this started decades ago with the addition of Brooks to the opinion page. Their ‘normalizer’—making conservative assumptions seem reasonable, inevitable, even centrist. Many people today have no conception of how far right the baseline has drifted.
Nixon considered a Universal Basic Income.
